Spinal Cord Stimulation for Pain Relief in Las Vegas
Relief for chronic pain when other treatments haven’t worked.
If you’ve tried medications, injections, or minimally invasive procedures like epidurals — and you’re still suffering from chronic nerve pain — Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) may offer lasting relief.
At Red Rock Surgery Center in Las Vegas, our board-certified pain management specialists use advanced spinal cord stimulator technology to help patients regain control of their lives.
What Is Spinal Cord Stimulation?
Spinal cord stimulation is a cutting-edge treatment that uses a small implanted device to send mild electrical pulses to the spinal cord. These pulses “mask” pain signals before they reach the brain, replacing the pain with a mild tingling or buzzing sensation instead.
This therapy is ideal for neuropathic (nerve-related) pain, particularly for conditions such as:
- Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS I & II / RSD)
- Failed back surgery syndrome
- Chronic leg pain with nerve damage or scar tissue
- Nerve pain unresponsive to medications or injections
How It Works: The Two-Phase Process
1. Trial Phase (Test Drive the Therapy)
Before a permanent implant is placed, you’ll undergo a temporary trial to ensure the treatment works for you.
- Performed under local anesthesia with sedation
- A thin lead is inserted into the epidural space under live X-ray (fluoroscopy)
- The lead is connected to an external stimulator that you control
- Over 4–5 days, you’ll test the system at home to evaluate its effectiveness
- No incisions or stitches are required — the lead is taped to your back and removed in a follow-up visit
If you experience significant pain relief during the trial, you’ll move on to the next phase.
2. Permanent Implant Phase
Once confirmed as a good candidate, you’ll return for the implantation of a long-term spinal cord stimulator.
- The permanent lead is placed and anchored under the skin
- A small battery (or receiver) is implanted either in the upper buttock or abdomen
- The system is fully internal, and you’ll receive sedation during the procedure
- Recovery is typically quick, and the procedure is performed at our state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center
Your doctor will help determine whether a rechargeable (internal battery) or non-battery (wireless transmitter) system is best for you.
