SPINAL AND PERIPHERAL STIMULATORIMPLANT
**POST-PROCEDURE INSTRUCTIONS
TO OUR SPINE AND PERIPHERAL, NERVE STIMULATOR PATIENTS:
WE HOPE THAT YOUR PAIN STIMULATOR AND PACEMKER IMPLANT OR REVISION GOES WELL. OUR PHYSICIANS AND STAFF WILL DO EVERYTHING IN OUR POWER TO MAKE THIS PROCEDURE A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE FOR YOUR CARETAKERS AND YOU. AS SUCH WE WOULD LIKE TO PROVIDE SOME INSTRUCTIONS AND GUIDELINES PRIOR TO THE
PROCEDURE:
Should you have ANY questions or concerns, please contact your doctor immediately.
Don’t expect immediate pain relief. In some cases, we may elect not to even turn the stimulator on. Following the implant, there may be some swelling around the leads, which may distort the stimulation.
This should resolve in a week or two…
You will have connecting wires placed under your skin between your incisions. There were placed with a tunneling tool, and you may feel sore along this path. THIS IS NORMAL AND SHOULD RESOLVE IN A FEW DAYS!
Keep you operative dressings on for 2 days. IF THERE IS ANY SIGNIFICANT SWELLING OR DRAINAGE – CALL YOUR DOCTOR!
Keep all wounds dry for at least 10 days. You will have a prescription for antibiotics, 4×4 gauze and tape. After 2 days, remove and change the dressings dally. If you need to clean the wounds, use gauze and peroxide liquid.
• If you do not have an appointment, call for one as soon as possible.
YOU WILL HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITHIN A WEEK OF THE PROCEDURE TO CHECK THE WOUNDS. A SECOND APPOINTMENT WILL BE MADE TO REMOVE ANY STAPLES. After this, you may get the wounds wet.
